Way out West Part 4 Finale

Features: Jumble Sale 001

By ,

Hello and welcome to the inaugural Jumble Sale, IYA’s very own homage to lazy journalism.

The format is simple: ten songs, old and new, that have caught our writers’ ears throughout the week – each accompanied with a handy description. Previously these songs would have sunk without a trace, lost in an overzealous bookmarking session or through a combination of hangovers, schedules and plain old fashioned negligence.

No longer. Jumble Sale rounds up, corrals and flat-packs these tracks into one easy access article. The writing may be stunted, the links broken – but look past these faults and ten guaranteed bangers await you. Enjoy.

1: Syreeta – Keep Him Like He Is
Straight from the 70’s, Syreeta gives us lazy summery soul – with this track recently sampled by Four Tet under his Percussions alias.

2: Ben Khan – Youth:
A perfect blend of Dilla inspired beats and guitar lines that absolutely ooze cool, Youth is everything you want to be and everyone you want to befriend.

3: Shamir – I Know It’s A Good Thing
19 year old Shamir is a precocious talent. Formerly of Anorexia, the Vegas native’s turned his hand to synths– resulting in some excellent, stripped down disco.

4: Sky Ferraira – Everything is Embarrassing
The story of my life in 249 seconds. :(

5: Princess Nokia – Dimensia
Everything about Princess Nokia is weird, but that’s what makes her so good. Don’t believe me? take a minute and stream Dimensia. You won’t be disappointed.

6: Courtney Barnett – Avant Gardener
It’s been out for a while, but the Aussie singer-songwriter’s Velvet-esque ode to asthma attacks still sounds box fresh.

7: Tune-Yards: – Water Fountain
Responses to Tune-Yards latest offering have been surprisingly marmite, considering how impossible it is to hate the combination angst folk singalong that is Water Fountain.

8: Shit Robot – Take ‘Em Up
I went to Shit Robot’s dj set the other night. It was too warm and I spent too much money and had a pretty disappointing time BUT this is still an amazing track.

9: The Smiths – This Charming Man (Luis Leon Bootleg)
It shouldn’t work, but it really does.

10: Tirzah – No Romance
Slow, brilliantly inaccessible dance music, this is yet another excellent release from Greco- Roman, home of Disclosure and TEED.
